Y'all who respond to every critique of Biden with, "This is an emergency! You have to help get rid of Trump!" what school of thought or organizing taught you that this was an effective model for getting votes? Why do you think this strategy is NOT taught in organizing workshops?
Panicking out loud at people will not win folks over. So if actually getting their votes is your goal -- I am not sure that's true, honestly, bc I think that a lot of you just find sanctimony emotionally satisfying -- you should care more about getting it right than being right.
Some of you don't care more about winning than you do about venting. Just so you know, that makes losing more likely.
Since someone replied that it's "demoralizing" to say this without telling people what they ought to do instead, here are 20 podcast episodes and transcripts I've created offering tips on a variety of organizing topics, including digital organizing. https://truthout.org/series/movement-memos/
Here's a thread I wrote two days ago that includes some historical resources for folks discussing and organizing around state violence, as well as some general how-to material on some beginner-friendly direct action tactics. https://twitter.com/MsKellyMHayes/status/1295067269249236992?s=20
Another option is to take on some of the asks being extended by postal workers right now. They are making clear asks for support. Ask yourself: Does it help them more to argue with people on here about their critiques of Biden or to fulfill these asks? https://usmailnotforsale.org/save/
If the post office is derailed in its work, we could witness the most sweeping act of voter suppression in our lifetimes. Fighting for the functionality post office is part of the fight against voter suppression.
The question was where folks learned that jumping on people who critique Biden w "this is an emergency!" rhetoric was an effective means of getting votes. If that's not you, why reply? If it is you, there's a reason you can't assert that your actions are effective. They are not.
Bottom line: If this is an emergency (and I believe that it is), you should really, really give a damn about being effective. https://twitter.com/MsKellyMHayes/status/1295799147447099392?s=20
We are currently watching a reboot of 2016 in so many ways and like most reboots, it is way worse than the original. https://twitter.com/MsKellyMHayes/status/1295814062853554182?s=20
Thanks for this helpful example. I've been open about the fact that I'm voting for Biden, but this person's priority is "exposing" why I am not voting for Biden. Some of you are so caught up in this BS that you have detached yourselves from reality. https://twitter.com/jp_bayona/status/1295864303468380160?s=20
That behavior reflexes a bizarre and unhealthy preoccupation that, in this case, has led someone to rant at me, a person who was already voting for Biden, about what's wrong with me as a person. This has nothing to do with winning an election and everything to do with losing.
