Read an interview w/The Supremes + they had to reiterate they didn’t need to leave Detroit to learn what glamor was bcuz women in their community showed them

Their style/glam + Black style/glam is often positioned in contrast to our upbringing/past + the undertone there is......
Imagine you a whole Supreme who wrote the book on glam + somebody infers that your Black community couldn’t have possibly afforded you glamour?

“We grew up around glamorous people. All the ladies were gorgeous —Della Reese. All the girls who were famous back then.” -Mary Wilson
Early on Supremes dressed in looks from Dept stores + still served

They would wear SAKs👇🏽, Jacobson’s + Hudson’s(Diana used to work there) — “A lot of times we’d go in + they didn’t even want to wait on us because we were Black”
