I walked around the school today, and looked in at the classrooms being set up for physical distancing. Carpets: removed. Comfy chairs: gone. Manipulatives: divvied out. 1 kid/table. We've spent years building comfortable spaces to help facilitate the focus on learning. ... 1/9
and the needs of the kids. And now: poof. Gone. Back to desks in rows; all eyes up front.
I thought to myself, "Man... how sad is this."
And then I remembered something really, really important: ... 2/9
Yes it looks different, feels different, and sounds different. Because it is.

And also: we've got this.

The amount of high-quality, innovative, and visionary problem-solving, adaptability, focus, and strength that educators are showing in this time is unparalleled. ... 3/9
And it's all done through a lens that isn't political, driven by money, or by power. The lens is love. Love of the craft; love of the colleagues; love of the community; and most of all, love of the kids. All kids. ...4/9
Regardless of whatever situation they have outside of the school.

The thing is, educators will figure it out. Without sufficient time, resources, or supports: they'll make it happen. They'll MAKE it work. They'll connect, they'll instruct, they'll support. ... 5/9
It'll look and feel different, but there's no denying that educators will be there for the kids. Every time.

It's because of that love educators have for this life that I know:

So I acknowledge that while it feels sad and heartbreaking to see school become so very different than it always has been, it's also comforting to know who is actually leading things; who is doing the real work. ... 7/9
Not talking heads who believe that Trapper Keepers are the latest edu-innovation, or that learning sciences (or any science, really) doesn't exist; but empathetic, professional, highly trained and qualified practitioners. ... 8/9
It's comforting to me to know that, while so much of our lives has been flipped and upended, this part of life and society is in good, good clean and recently washed hands.
