That feeling when Police claim they are just doing their job and to talk to City Council, and then you hear @CandiCdeBacaD9 is on her way...
Going tent to tent to evict people. Won’t allow @CandiCdeBacaD9 or Terese from @DHOLofficial in the taped off area. Terese tried to explain the woman who lived here is at job interviews. If tents are unoccupied police have them thrown away. #stopthesweeps
The power of the woman knitter knowing her rights has been a key takeaway for me. She knew what she did and didn’t have to say/do. When asked her name she asked if she was being arrested and when police stayed quiet so did she. Knowledge is important when standing up to bullies

This is the first of many times police say,”I’m just doing my job, talk to @DenCityCouncil.” Problem: @CandiCdeBacaD9 is the only councilmember I’ve seen show up for unhoused sweeps in her district. @DenverPerfect10 hasn’t been at any.

Officer Murray (sp?) who I’ve learned from other sweeps has palpable disdain for being questioned in any way, shows up first to set a perimeter. Ignores all questions demanding accountability.
Murray calls for backup. So if you’re keeping score at home we have:

This man showed up and started PREACHING, and we were all here for it.
Suddenly, police remove yellow tape & start deescalating the sweep. Was it the stoic womxn knitter that knew her rights and didn’t budge? Was it @CandiCdeBacaD9? Was it the fierce Black preacherman spitting truth to power? The group of protesters? All of it? THANKS 4 SHOWING UP
Cops: we’re just following the law.
