In 2016 I tweeted the DNC from an Indigenous sovereignty standpoint after a lifetime of growing up in that party. only to get trolled by Dems of all colors (but only on their skin and hair). I'm done doing anthropological observations on them, I think.
Like a slasher film, I covered my eyes last night and let my twitter mutuals and writers i follow give me the gory blow by blow. Sounded like a lot of ongoing gratuitous violence.
In 2011, I moved on from a decade of studying white scientists whose colonial genome research i grew to want to fail. It started to feel tiring and counter productive to continue engaging them.
Instead, i began doing research on the work of Indigenous, queer, and other critical scientists whose work i could be invested in, who i could learn with and from, people who did not demoralize me about the possibilities of science.
Observing a dinosaur party justify the same ol' unacceptable behavior & approaches feels demoralizing like engaging old white, mostly male bone & genome scientists who won't change, who oppose basic decency like repatriation & Indigenous sovereignty over our own biologicals.
So in the last four years since 2016, I've basically DemExited in my head to engage thinkers whose projects I can get behind. These are younger, far more critical interrogators of this failing system who are focused on other political pathways to change.
Because there is no room or sustenance left for them in this system. I am learning so much from and with them. And contrary to DinoDems who accuse them of being cynical, they are not the ones being cynical by questioning the efficacy of electoral politics.
Such young ones seem to be on the other hand finding radical hope elsewhere. I'm still following and observing but this is what I'm seeing.
