BUILDING A BALANCED SQUAD
In this thread, I’ll give advice on how to build a team structure for #FPL GW1 that is both balanced and flexible. I’ll cover all the major points, from specific price slots to formations, and explain WHY a balanced team is important.

Although it may be tempting, it’s important not to go into GW1 with a restrictive formation. You may think a 5-4-1, 4-5-1, 5-3-2, etc. is best, but if you’re wrong, it’s very hard to change your team. Shifting funds between positions requires multiple transfers.
For that reason, many in the #FPLCommunity, including myself, have opted for a 3-4-3/4-3-3 flex formation. Two (often Liverpool) DEFs that make up the base of your defense, plus two 4.5m rotational DEFs, and in the midfield, 3 base mids plus 1 rotational mid in the 5 mil bracket.
This allows for maximum flexibility; Based on fixtures, you can choose who to play from your 2 cheap defenders and 1 cheaper mid. Furthermore, spreading cash around your whole team allows you to more quickly jump on trends, no matter what position they occur in.

I plan to have multiple specific price slots in my team for GW1. Having these price slots means I can easily transfer in players (without having to take hits or shift funds) whenever someone has a sea of green fixtures or is on hot form.

As aforementioned, I’ll be having two 4.5 million defenders in my team. Currently, I own Vinagre and Taylor, but, these spots will be very dependent on fixtures. @ssiaFPL wrote a great thread discussing many assets at that price point.

With such a great variety of premium midfield options, it’s important to have at least 2 in your GW1 team. A strategy that is becoming more and more popular is upside-chasing by transferring in and out premiums based on shorter term prospects.

This is a price slot that I LOVE this season. There are so many and explosive options that I want to be able to switch between throughout the season. By including these price slots, you’ll have a balanced team and be able to jump on any trend quickly.

Hear me out—starting out with just £0.5 in the bank can be huge after GW1. It gives you flexibility. It allows you to transfer in players whose prices have already risen, without selling players in other positions and taking a hit. @FplProp touched on this too

While we don’t know all of the fixtures yet, it seems as though saving your WC for GW16 to prepare for DGWs/BGWs is the ideal strategy (according to @BenCrellin). Consider building a team that you can fix potential problems without using the early WC. https://twitter.com/bencrellin/status/1295144596360572928

To have a balanced and flexible team structure, consider doing the following:

While I enjoy implementing this kind of structure, it is NOT for everyone. I know some are more aggressive and willing to take hits and big gambles. Different people prefer different strategies
