10 REASONS WHY BATMAN OWNS ITS ENTIRE EXISTENCE TO NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. A THREAD.

*disclaimer: diminishing returns may appear throughout this thread*
1. GOTHAM.
It's just a small village outside Clifton, but inspired a nickname for New York, in turn filched exactly 80 years ago to be the city Batman operates in. Has a moth and butterfly reserve, favourite food for....bats
The pub that sits between it and Clifton? The Crusader
2. WAYNE MANOR, AKA WOLLATON HALL.
Notts was full of celebs when, in 2012, Warner Bros chose our local city centre as deer park for the home of the caped crusader. Here's a famous Notts guy in Wollaton Hall dressed as Batman - can you name him?
3. ROBIN IS ROBIN HOOD
Batman's young sidekick was introduced to give Batman someone to talk to. Bit where was the concept of his character taken from? Why, no other than out local legend (do one, Yorkshire) Robin Hood.
4. MICHAEL CAINE GETS BENT
Michael Caine -Alfres in Batman - surprised many when, on Desert Island Discs in 2009 he chose Beeston electro-duo Bent as one of his favourite (I was in the same class as Simon Mills, one half of the band. A deeply ace guy).

(Also, Michael Caine's fine tastes in deep electro were such that he went on to release a chill out mix himself, featuring Bent and others, magnificently title 'Cained').l
5. MOXEY.
The 1989 Batman film saw a mugger, played by Christopher Fairbanks, become Batman's first victim. Fairbanks played Moxey in Aug Wiedersehen Pet, which was extensively filmed in Beeston, Notts. I once lived in one of the houses preciously used by Timothy Spall
(another friend, now sadly deceased, has Jimmy Nail come around her house to use the toilet. "He took hours" she reported "And it smelt of Brut for days").
6. GOING UNDERGROUND
Nottingham was once named 'Tiggua Cobaucc' meaning 'Place of Caves'. Batman lives in.....
7. P-P-P....

Gotham City is cursed with an evil Penguin who ruins lives and runs the police ragged. Same here.
8. MORE PENGUINS
The next Batman film, 2021's The Batman, stars Colin Farrell as the Penguin. He also starred in the forgettable Total Recall remake, alongside Kate Beckinsale, whose dad Richard famously came from Beeston.
(that film was also directed by Hollywood's Len Wiseman, then Kate Beckinsale 's husband, seen here reading his favourite Notts suburb publication.
9. FLAPS
Men that turn into bats? Vampires were doing it years ago, and the first real vampire book, Polidori's The Vampire, was written in the company o (and allegedly based on) Naughty Nott's poet Lord Byron during the legendary writing contest that also spawned Frankenstein.
10. ARMS OF ORION
The Artist Formally Known As Prince Who Then Changed Back To Just Prince released his best album in '89, 'Batman'. He also collaborated with Sheena Easton on 'U Got The Look'.

'Sheena Easton' is cockney rhyming slang for 'Beeston'. Probably
That's your lot. I'm sure we can now agree that Batman and Notts are synonymous, and we probably deserve some royalties or something.
