THREAD: I’ve had a few questions about the Up wrap so here’s a little more info for those of you that are curious about the process etc 👍🏻

Firstly, it started out as a bit of a laugh, a passing comment during a lockdown @APMCustoms team meeting....
I’d never considered wrapping my own car before but I was a bit miffed that VW didn’t offer blue from factory ☹️

Inspiration -> Mini’s Starlight Blue, VW’s Lapiz & BMW’s San Marino Blue 💙
The closest we could get colour wise was 3M’s Gloss Blue Raspberry 1080 Series.

Hexis & Avery offer similar coloured films...but 3M is the way to go regarding ease of fitment, quality, durability etc.
Look at the timestamps below. A conventional hatchback colour change takes 2-3 days...factoring in prep, tear-down, application, quality control, polishing + coatings.

These boys managed it in near enough 5 hours 🤯
I opted for the sills (shuts) to be wrapped but not door returns, you just have to get in’n’out really quickly 😉

The overall fit and finish is excellent, there’s only one ‘glue roll’ from where the vinyl had been sat on a shelf for allll of lockdown. Easily replaced.
I’ve been advised not to wash the car for a week, to let the adhesive do its thing. Jet wash-big no no ⛔️

Special vinyl coatings are now available which work wonders like Gtechniq’s HALO. Easier to clean, hydrophobic bla bla bla....
Price - A conventional colour change on a hatchback is roughly £1200+vat. There’s a lot of variables to this like film type, car size, shuts & returns...oh, and if you work there 😛 #Perks

If ‘your mate can do it well cheaper’ that’s great...just expect to have it done twice 🙃
