As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of Nineteenth Amendment and reflect on the women's suffrage movement, it's crucial that we acknowledge the lack of intersectionality within the fight for voting rights, which was at the expense of women of color.
Women haven't had the right to vote for 100 year. Not all women. White women have had that right--and women of color had to wait another 45 years until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed.
That's why our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We can't fully or sincerely empower women without first addressing racism that women of color endure in addition to sexism.
While we can still acknowledge the progress made with the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, we need to remember our history accurately. 😇
