What I told my staff today: First thing to say is - our priorities remain clear : tackling the current pandemic and contributing to preventing the next one. Every one of you has supported the effort throughout this pandemic, in working with our HP Teams, with NHSE and providers.

But you are now all looking to prepare for the biggest flu campaign in history and helping get the NHS up and running. This announcement does not reflect on the passion and commitment you each bring to your role- the added value you bring to the work of so many others.

We all have so many questions but there are so few answers. In the mean time please “stand your post” we are here to protect and improve the public health- that hasn’t changed.

You know I am proud of each of you- I love that you challenge me, you push me and you support me in equal measure. We have had great success in YH as the best part of PHE and we will continue to greater success in the future.

PH is expanding, we have new investment and our value is not in dispute. Thank your families from me for all the extra time we have stolen from them - it has been worth it and will not go unnoticed.
