When you pick up Darkhold, I want you to go read Ashemmi and Riviar's lore. I want you to read their stat blocks. I want you to take in the power and the position they both hold. I wrote those.

When I came onto Darkhold as a designer, I explained that Ashemmi needed a complete
redo. When you read her old history, she has no agency—from life event to life event, she is shunted from man to man to man, making no choices of her own. The old lore even goes so far as to out her as a spy and have her morals removed, making her the perfect arm candy for
Semmemon. You can imagine my disgust when I read it.

The team gave me many assignments. The strife cleric is mine. Several spells are mine. The lore on Riviar and Ashemmi are mine, and the Sorrow stat block? That's mine. The Thieves' Cant, that was Justice and I. I was empowered
to do many, many things on this project, and one of them was to give Ashemmi not just agency, but power.

She isn't beholden to Semmemon anymore, she is THE leader of the Sable Accord. She isn't a captive, she is THE spy within Darkhold, allowing a party an intriguing dynamic
with someone who isn't wholly loyal to Darkhold and the Zhentarim. She is THE forefront of Darkhold's wizards.

She deserves it. I am proud of what I did. And I am proud that I was empowered and given agency to tell her story in a way that it better deserved.

I hope you love it.
