I’m sure no teens follow me anyway but just in case: if you’ve had your predicted grades re-instated but you’re having trouble getting into your first choice with clearing/bc of this whole drama I would fully recommend having a year out
I didn’t actually want to have a year out but I had glandular fever in sixth form and was never at school so i was really unhappy with my predicted grades. I decided to wait til I had my actual grades before applying and take a year out in the mean time
I thought I would hate it bc I grew up in a tiny village that I was dying to get away from but I got a job in a pub + volunteered in a charity shop + did some travelling. It made the actual process of applying a lot easier and less stressful and gave me enough time to actually...
think about what degree I wanted to do/what uni I wanted to go to without pressure from my school. I also think it’s good to have a job esp. if you didn’t have one during sixth form cause you learn that there’s life outside of school/uni and how to manage your money and stuff
People think of having a year out as having a posh “gap yah” and that’s obviously nice if you can afford it but not everyone can, I think you learn a lot just being outside of school/uni and giving yourself a chance to breathe and not stress about grades for a bit
Obviously there’s privilege in being able to do this (I was able to live at home for an extra year; I was able to work; I had and was able to save money for holidays etc) but if this is an option for you and you’re considering it it’s definitely something I would recommend
