It's funny how "people create, compose, choose and combine images, and they're replicated and influence how other people feel about a subject" is meant to be an optional, fun area of education instead of something everyone should be aware of and be able to notice and analyse...
Imagine if all adults understood the impact images and the context of images have in everyday communication in society, and how they are never without layers of intent, instead of thinking that's just a funny lie people say about fine art paintings
Because then you could not lie to them so easily by making them think an unedited photograph is a neutral, objective message of universal truth no matter the context.
Wouldn't it be something to protect the arts and their study not because they enrich life, but because they teach us all to realise the artifice of communication?
There's a range of reasons some people would like to keep the arts away from "important subjects" but one, for certain, is that it's easier to lie to people that way, no matter how much science you teach them, you can lie to them with things they think are harmless.
