So, if we're going to have an election, I hope we all take the time to ask the parties what they actually are proposing for the next few years. This is the first time in a long time that I am genuinely undecided, so here's what I'm interested in hearing from the leaders:
1) New Brunswick has weathered the economic storm, but things may get worse this winter. What's your party's plan to stimulate the economy in 2021, where do you think you'll invest money? How will you work with the federal govt to match their likely green infrastructure stimulus?
2) Post-secondary education costs have been slowly rising for a long time, making a university education less accessible for young New Brunswickers. How can we help reduce costs for young NBers who want to be educated here then live here?
3) Our public education system has been struggling for decades. We've learned some universities like Waterloo discount NB high school grades by over 25% to account for our system's failings. How are we going to reverse these trends? What programs should we keep and/or reform?
4) Coal is to be phased out in Canada by 2030. Canada is targeting becoming carbon neutral by 2050. What infrastructure changes are required in New Brunswick in order for us to meet those goals?
5) Thousands of people in Fredericton don't have a family doctor. Walk-in clinics have closed in the city. Emergency rooms aren't meant to deal with ear or sinus infections. What changes are needed so I don't have to drag my sick toddler to the Chalmers ER for antibiotics?
