In this article I will look at how I apply Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to FPL and how we can all love the game to it’s full potential!

To do this we need to understand what “Hierarchy of Needs” is.

- Maslow is an American physchologist who created the “Pyriamid” of needs.
- He proposed that you need a sense of success in the first tier to then be motivated to succeed in the following one.
- The picture below demonstrates how I’ve compared his chart to FPL.

Tier 5 - Physiological (Budget)
- We need to understand that using our budget wisely will allow premium player in certain positions.
i.e - Don’t use all your £100m on the best midfield as you can’t afford the rest of your team. We need a balanced team throughout

Tier 4 - Safety (Team security) If you pick a team of 15 players who you aren’t sure in and have a lot of risky picks, you won’t feel you have a “safe” team.
Consider
- Do they have game time?
- Are they the first choice in that position?
- Have they got a good run of fixtures?

Tier 3 - Love/Belonging (Social)
- Join mini leagues! Play with friends and form friendships on social media. There nothing better than playing FPL with friends and discussing about how your team is getting on over the gameweek.

Tier 2 - Esteem/Accomplishment (Points)
- To have your captain choice bring returns and maybe score the most pointsin your team is a great feeling.
It’s great to get one over on your mates in the leagues and being able to brag about your gameweek score. 1 GW at a time for this!

Tier 1 - Self-Actualisation (FPL fulfilment)
- If you can achieve all of the below tiers then tier 1 is met. This is being able to enjoy FPL to it’s full potential. Playing with friends, understanding the game and having some success throughout the season is what FPL is about.

I hope you enjoyed my short thread/arcticle on how I enjoy everybody’s favourite fantasy game.
