Hong Kong youth vs #Oromoprotest youth.

One fighting the Government of China, the other fighting the Government of Ethiopia

Both seeking more autonomy.

One studies for exams during protest, the other wields a club and burns towns
Lately, however, the protest have turned more violent in Hong Kong. Over 9000 protesters have been arrested of which 4000 are students and about 1000 are under 18. So far only two persons have died from unintended circumstances.
In Ethiopia, this past month alone saw the premeditated and willfully executed deaths of over 160 citizens, the utter decimation of Shashemene plus 100's of displaced individuals. One glaring difference between the Hong Kong protest and #oromoprotest is the amount of cameras.
Everyone is armed with a mobile camera, or journalists are brought to the front of the line to document everything. Unlike #oromoprotest where the media is not invited nor do any participants record any context to ensuing violence. It is always a 30 sec clip with no context
of the brutal aftermath of a violence encounters.

What can #oromoprotest learn from the Honk Kong protest?

1. Be specific.
Hong Kong protests have been triggered by very specific changes to the law. The protesters are all on the same page. They know exactly what they want
and precisely how the changes affect them. In contrast the #oromoprotest has no clear agenda, no defined terms, no specific quantifiable grievance.
2. Exit strategy.
Hong K. protests have a clearly defined victory line, Because they know exactly what they want their protest has beginning middle and end.
In contrast #oromoprotest is open ended and has no clearly defined victory post, hence the cycle of violence. It flares up, dies out then at the next incident it flares up again.

3. National Support.
Almost all of Hong K. supports the protesters.
With #oromoprotest national support is impossible for many reasons, but primarily because the #oromoprotest by nature is exclusionary to all other ethnic group.

4. Documentation
This has already been addressed, pull out your cam and start recording at the front lines.
5. Know your enemies
As you can see, Hong Kong protesters clean up the city after long days of protesting, because the city is not their enemy. This mindset is gold.
