#Lebanon : The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is currently issuing its verdict in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005.

4 victims on location in The Hague: Rafik's son Saad, 2 family members of Bassel Fuleihan & Omar Tarraf, son of bodyguard Ziad Tarraf.
Prosecution's case focused on groups of cell phones that followed Hariri around in the months before his assassination.

The "Red Group" all made their last calls minutes before Hariri's assassination, and were never used again.
Presiding Judge David Re: "It is the consistency of these patterns that allows conclusions that these things are beyond coincidence."
Political background: Hariri had pushed back against Syrian encroachments on internal Lebanese affairs (Syria wanting to deposit candidates in his electoral list).

Marwan Hamadeh was bombed in late 2004 as a potential warning to Hariri.
Rustum Ghazaleh (Syria's man in Lebanon) had asked for a double payment of regular blackmail money in the $millions the day before Hariri died.

"Syria & Hezbollah may have had motives to eliminate Hariri and his political allies," though there is no direct evidence they led it.
Hariri and Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah had "good relations" in months before the attack.
Crime scene was not properly secured; Critical evidence removed from crime scene on the night of the attack; tow trucks drove onto crime scene to do this; crime scene damaged unnecessarily: "There was no urgency, the trial chamber find incomprehensible what happened."
Harrowing details on "lack of coordinated procedure to look for missing:"

Body of 1 victim found 17 days later after family hired search team w/ dogs.

Another victim found day after explosion & likely lived for 12 hours afterwards, "May have survived" if given treatment.
Trial chamber concludes that the suicide bombing was not carried out by Ahmad Abu Adas, a person who disappeared about a month before the attack and appeared in a video sent to news orgs after it happened.

#Breaking: Trial Chamber concludes that senior #Hezbollah commander Mustafa Badreddine (now-deceased) was the single user of a mobile phone used to contact a number of other cell phones that followed Hariri around in the months before his assassination.
