*New (Long) Thread*

I’ve seen a few threads looking at 4.0 + 4.5 defenders (facilitators for premium MID assets) but for those with that extra bit of cash in their pocket, I’ve taken a look at some 5.0 defenders that have caught my eye! Stats are from 19/20 @OfficialFPL season.
Name: Hector Bellerin
Club: Arsenal
FPL Pts: 44
Mins: 1156
CS: 4
Thoughts: First choice RB in an improving defence. Scored 132pts two seasons ago when injury free. Very good option IMO with limited rotation risk. Decent value too, could easily have been 5.5 - firmly on the radar.

Name: Tyrone Mings

Pts: 90

Thoughts: You get a guaranteed starter when fit - who is the rock of the Villa defence. There’s an aerial threat from set piece too. However, I think Villa will go down next season and not an FPL asset for me.

Thoughts: If, and it’s a big if, MN can get a good run in the team, he’s potentially an out-of-position asset. Can easily play CM but, unfortunately, isn’t a starter so it’s a no from me. One to keep an eye on 👀

Thoughts: 0.5 cheaper than Tarkowski and with Pope priced up at 5.5, Mee is a good way to get a reliable Burnley defender. Averaged 93.6pts over the past 5 seasons. However, Taylor and Pieters at 4.5 also tempting.

Thoughts: Caution. If Henderson is not at SHU next season, and is replaced by Ramsdale, I’m leaning away from SHU defensive assets. Especially with the 🐐 reclassified too - proceed with caution!!

Thoughts: Mr Consistent for Brighton and with a good run of fixtures, Dunk could be a popular FPL asset once more. The Duffy/Dunk partnership may be no more but as part of a 3 at the back, still one to watch. I’m a fan!

Thoughts: On the face of it, this looks good value. However, if Chelsea sign Chilwell (and Azpi plays every game) James could be rotated if Azpi moves to RB. Whether Azpi plays as one of three CBs or first choice RB is key.

Thoughts: Takes up a Utd spot but I like the price and, once back fit, Shaw is first choice. Plenty of overlapping runs with Rashford and an attacking threat. I really like this option if fully fit.

Thoughts: Injury plagued his 19/20 season but the first choice LB could get attacking returns as well as plenty of CS under Mourinho. Again, a very attractive option with limited rotation risk.

Thoughts: Re-classified this year to DEF. With Vertonghen leaving Spurs, Dier may well feature even more this season at CB but still, there’s rotation risk and not a FPL asset for me.

Conclusion:

I particularly like the look of Shaw and Davies. When fit, they are both first choice LBs and offer potential attacking returns too.

Word of warning on James and Egan.

Coady + Dunk + Mings reliable starters too with no rotation risk. 👊
