In defence of @Ofqual they had to design a system for an extraordinary time. They met the government imposed brief - minimum grade inflation, to the timescale set by government - results dates. Any algorithm would be generous to some, harsh to others, and always feel unfair.
Who decided to stick with results dates? Government. Who didn’t work with universities to pause clearing ? Government. Who (so they claim) didn’t look at the impact of the algorithm until clearing place were already mostly filled the weekend AFTER results? Government.
Who watched the impact of results in Scotland and ensuing decision and still did nothing? Government. Who stuck to their position of no centre assessed grades for five days, ensuring universities filled their places with algorithm graded students? Government. Who blames @Ofqual ?
