It is a bit useless to get upset about Eric Abidal not getting fired.

The start of the season is less than 4 weeks away. Getting a new technical director now would be even worse than firing the one we have.
Is Eric Abidal a good technical director or not? I have no idea, because the feeling is that the president weighs in heavily on decisions that are taken.
Is it Abidal's fault that Valverde did not play Aleñà or Todibo? Their departures really hurt us, but it seems unlikely that he was given the power to force minutes for these players, so it is logical they wanted to leave in order to develop.
Is it Abidal's fault that Valverde was kept on after Anfield? No, it was clearly Bartomeu's decision. Was it Abidal's fault that Valverde's destitution was handles so poorly? Again,
Bartomeu, Bartomeu, Bartomeu.
Signings we can probably contribute to Abi are Todibo and Trincao - we won't know until a couple of years from now how good they will become. Firpo looks to be a failed signing, but with all of the transfer money was dedicated to Griezmann, what's a TD to do?
(and don't give me "he should have signed Davies," there are thousands of clubs and sometimes another big club does well and finds a gem that nobody else would have signed)
I applauded the risk he took for no winter signing and I think that when he was finally forced to replace Dembélé (and the board under pressure from the media clearly forced the matter), Braithwaite was well-scouted and we can probably sell him for a similar price.
People point at his interview for being a big mistake, but it was only a mistake because our dressing room had been spoiled and can take no criticism or responsibility.

It is a situation our TD inherited and was given no control over to rectify.
Abidal's biggest mistake is being associated with this board, and we can certainly blame him for that. Had Laporta won the previous elections, with Abi as TD, things might have turned out very differently for him.
Ultimately he put himself in the hands of a puppet master. This is unfortunate in itself but even more so if the puppet master is one of the biggest muppets to ever pull the strings in a football club...
