I remember being cautiously excited when this news broke, a feeling that lingered when I was invited to a screening of #FunnyBoyFilm recently.

The story is still as important as it was when it was first written, and first experienced. This adaptation reminds us that, in 2020, the identities of being Tamil and being queer are still on the margins of our society. #lka #FunnyBoyFilm #FunnyBoyathome
The depiction of the pogroms of 1983 (in a way that [I think] local film hasn't done) are visuals that we shouldn't shy away from, considering how this violence remains very real for us - just that the mobs have a different target now. #lka #FunnyBoyFilm #FunnyBoyathome
The whole cast did a wonderful job, but @NimmiHarasgama's performance was probably one of my favourite things about #FunnyBoyFilm. One last & possibly unpopular thought - it would have been nice to see more Tamil actors in lead roles. I mean no disrespect to the cast or crew. I don't know how these decisions are made, but am just considering how space is taken up when stories are told. #lka #FunnyBoyFilm
I hope that audiences in #LKA will get a chance to see #FunnyBoyFilm, and that they'll do so with empathy and critique, and realising how much work still has to be done. #FunnyBoyAtHome @IamDeepaMehta
