Pulled this off a old State Of Kansas tower today? It’s a 10ft all thread with a zillion nuts and star washers! It was horizontally mounted across the top of the tower? Assume it was some kind of diy static drain! Bonus it was about to fall off. Thoughts??
Just got an email back from one of the retired techs I know. He said the state had noise problems caused by corona discharge on the old 44.94MHz low band system. Corona and metal oxides on the tower caused non linear mixing.
He described it as standard intermod mixed with broadband static discharge and corona. The dark arts of RF, you think you know the components of your circuit when really corrosion, wind, and every rf source within 20 miles all combine to give your a headache!
