I've seen a bunch of discussions today about how reviews are for reader's and tbh that's not completely true. Imho, reviews are for EVERYONE.

Every day, THOUSANDS of books get published and it's extremely difficult for an author to reach reader's in such a saturated market. Reviews *good or bad* help a book get visibility. For authors to keep doing what they do, they need some recognition and/or compensation.

Consider the hours, days, weeks, months, even YEARS it takes for a writer to produce the content you and I enjoy reading. They put their blood, sweat and tears into their work.

As a reviewer, you have a bigger voice than you know. When you use keywords like the authors name, book title, etc. on your blog, social media, Goodreads, or Amazon. Those words help make the search engine/social media algorithms work so that the book gets more visibility.

The discussions we have about books and our reading experiences are meaningful. I would even say that we are influential and motivate each other to read more and often. You all certainly keep me going!

If reviews were only for reader's then there just wouldn't be much value in what we do. Author's and publisher's wouldn't put forth the expense of shipping ARCs if it wasn't a powerful marketing tool.

I've also seen authors who say that reviews help them improve on their craft.

It's unreasonable to say reviews are for readers.

In saying that, reviews should be HONEST and RESPECTFUL. Authors, critics, or even publishers need to understand that reviews *good or bad* have their place.

Be kind to one another and keep it classy folks.
