My Best Advice for 1Ls: A Thread

1) You belong here. You are as smart and as qualified as your classmates. At the very least, allow yourself the confidence of a mediocre white man.
2) Everyone has their own way of note-taking, briefing, outlining, etc. It can be good to listen to advice from 2Ls and 3Ls, but ultimately, your system has to work for YOU.
3) Be generous and kind. In 10 years, you won’t remember who bombed a cold call or who had the best GPA.

But you’ll remember the student who was quick to share notes when you were sick, or who helped you understand the Rule Against Perpetuities. Be that person.
4) Don’t discuss grades. Just don’t. It will preserve your friendships and your sanity.
5) Surround yourself with people who value kindness over competition.

If you can find those people, your 1L experience might be really freaking great.
