If I have to choose between relying on an "authoritarian" community militia or a "libertarian" anarchist lynch mob to deal with problems I'm choosing the "authoritarians" every single time
The level of social upheaval required to create a society collectivist enough to eliminate policing entirely under socialism isn't going to happen any time soon in the individualism-poisoned west. This place is going to need policing and law enforcement for a LONG ass time
Anarchists in the west would be hard pressed to even organize a Community Justice Lynch Mob. People would just not give a shit as other people were killed and looted because "Egoism" or some bullshit
The community bonds between peasants that early anarchist theorists relied heavily upon have been completely destroyed by the hegemony of capitalist property relations and capitalist individualist ideology
Modern anarchist theory has become so divorced from the material conditions it was birthed from that it's decayed into a vulgar state-reductionism and in the worse cases authority-reductionism
Like, hell, we saw what happened with the CHAZ. When their "anarchism" only amounted to a stagnated six blocks which were basically co-opted into a hippie festival, instead of learning and re-organizing they just surrendered to liberalism and let the cops back in
the steadfast refusal to learn and develop from material reality and insistence on the purity of the idea (i.e. idealism) while violently rejecting all alternative paths is the prime issue affecting Anarchism as an ideology and dragging it continuously down into the dirt
This total lack of science is why anarchists historically ended up largely siding with Marxist-Leninist movements and abandoning anarchism, with the only "anarchists" remaining resorting to banditry and terrorism as they faded to obscurity
Anyway I highly recommend reading about how anarchist ideology (NOT specifically anarchists as people) massively undermined and sabotaged attempts to properly organize Occupy Wall Street and the Spanish Republic during the civil war.
I've you've read all this and not resorted to leaving angry comments, I highly recommend reading the works of Mao Zedong, Lenin's "State and Revolution", and "Soviet Democracy" by Pat Sloan. Marxism-Leninism has continually implemented anarchist ideas where they make sense.
As a quick addendum, I want to say that this is part of why Black Nationalism and Indigenous Liberation is so important. Those communities, due to their historical experiences, could eliminate policing much faster than white communities. https://twitter.com/RedDiamondMP/status/1295529137730473985
