Finishing up 7 days on the #COVID19 inpatient service, it’s been a memorable experience to say the least.
Thought I’d combine some thoughts & observations into a Covid Attending Hospitalist Off-Service #MedThread

Here goes, thanks in advance for reading
Covid patient care is TOUGH. I’m reasonably physically fit & consider myself “resilient” (whatever the hell that means) Our service isnt overwhelmed either.
Yet I’m mentally & physically tired.
To those of you doing this every day for months on end, you have my undying respect.
I’ve been a Hospitalist for 15 years, I have never seen such high order multidisciplinary care in my career.
This is a complex unit w/ myriad challenges & rapid clinical changes, not to mention donning/doffing PPE.
To the whole crew with me the past 7 days: Thank You
Remember the following when you see/share anti-China rhetoric. Virtually every item of PPE being used by those you love to care for those you love...is made in China.
Amazing to see how fast EHR was adapted to Covid-related issues. Orders, billing, protocols, documentation, you name it, it’s done.

Filing away for when next I hear an EHR modification “can’t be done at this time”
Morale is critical. Patients, staff, families all need boosts. Hand out compliments, make phone calls, be a presence. They’re like water in the desert and go such a long way.
Hydrate. Holy smokes, hydrate.
I used the following 48oz vessel to Hulk Out when I get home.
It’s nice to put my wedding band back on
Finally, to the residents & visitors of @CityofSantaRosa, Thank You. Your incredible personal & professional commitment to wearing #masks & following the science is remarkable. It makes a difference. Keep it up & know how much it is appreciated!
