Some observations after a couple days of school:
1. It has been great to have students in our building. It was something that I didn’t know my soul needed. 2. We’re asking teachers to teach in a way that they’ve never taught before. They will be great at it. But maybe not today.
3. Everyone is doing the best they can with the information they have. We will all be better off and happier if we assume positive intentions and go from there. 4. People aren’t ok. COVID-19, the quarantine, and the social isolation are real and are impacting all differently.
5. We’ve got to create safe (both kinds) communities to wrap around each other and care for each other. And everyone needs it: students, teachers, staff, admin. 6. The vibe of the building is...off. I know we’re in 50% and we’re all in masks but it’s somber.
7. I know why we can’t but I didn’t realize how much I depend on facial expressions, smiles, awkward high fives, to communicate love, care, and support for others. Words are hard.
