We're extremely alarmed by this retaliatory action that is clearly meant to punish Black leaders who were vocal about ensuring that the police respect the constitutional rights of all people.

Senator Lucas grew up in Jim Crow Virginia. For almost 30 years, she's represented Portsmouth and the people of Virginia. At a protest at a Confederate Memorial she reminded police they could not arrest peaceful protesters.
