I raise you the Hemingses of Monticello. Thomas Jefferson had children with his wife’s half sister, who was also half Black, the product of a coerced sexual relationship between TJ’s father-in-law and a woman he owned.
Like, this is literally why the British upended centuries of British tradition of the child’s status following the fathers — to ensure that all these half-white babies would be born enslaved like their mothers and therefore, could be sold for profit.
These children were enslaved Black children whose blood was mostly white enslavers. Think about the type of depraved society where men would assault women and then enslave their own children for profit. But the 1619 Project wasn’t uplifting enough.
