Oh my god. @DHSgov’s response to the @USGAO report that Wolf and Cuccinelli comes along with a *personal attack* on a GAO staffer who was involved with drafting the report.

This is the mark of an agency gone mad. There are no adults left at DHS HQ. None.

Your taxpayer dollars used for one arm of government to dig up opposition research on a staffer in a nonpartisan government accountability office.

This is beyond insulting, especially given the circumstances: Acting DHS General Counsel Chad Mizelle, who wrote this, graduated law school in 2013.

DHS’s Deputy General Counsel, Ian Brekke, was Mizelle’s groomsman. He had no relevant experience before getting the job last year.

The people who wrote this letter and this press release have no shame. They have fully taken control of @DHSgov and have bludgeoned the agency into doing everything they ever wanted.

This press release is how authoritarian governments speak.

Just realized the first tweet doesn’t say what the GAO report concluded.

The GAO said that Chad Wolf and Ken Cuccinelli are not lawfully in their current positions as leaders of DHS. That due to paperwork errors in 2019, neither man was legally appointed.
