owning a classic Defender is genuinely a goal of mine, but the prices of ones in the US is so absurd that i don't think i'll ever be able to afford an original US market one

The US is annoyingly crazy with car imports. There are stories of people legally importing 25 year old Defenders, jump through every hoop imaginable and having the FBI steal it from their property anyway.
