This past week I was rewatching Shrek and I think I’m onto something.....
Shrek is a member of the Ogre race an oppressed marginalized group filled with sterotypes of poor working class minorities portrayed as violent and dirty
Common stereotypes of the working class (proletariat) in our world today
Further proof of this is found in this film with other races being rounded up and being sold in markets at one point all being disposed from their property
Some even facing torture to give up vital information important to the bourgeois like the ginger bread man
Even at one point the king of the land saying they’re all a poor race that are posion to the land...

As the story goes members of classes turn against each other in true capitalistic utopian fashion
As the film progresses enter Donkey. His character is prime example of a working class revolutionary believeing violence is the only means to the overthrow of bourgeois, suggesting it to shrek countless of times to no avail
Donkey dictates many plans to lay siege to the fortress and never recognized the class or race difference between him and shrek

Shrek protarys himself as peaceful not willing to play into the “violent” stereotypes of his kind instead hoping for a peaceful transition of power in the future. An unfortunate mindset of all marginalized groups in every society

Fiona is interesting.. Her Character is the perfect personification of the bourgeois

Her overhearing a convo between Shrek and donkey and revolution causes her to change.. suddenly eating rats and Spider web Cotton candy much like other races are forced to due to poor circumstances

In true romcom fashion the wedding is stopped not by a “ hello” but by donkey and a dragon explosive entrance ( fellow revolutionary ) as they attempt to succeed in their violent revolution however shrek being a pacifist stops this
Later on Fiona reveals her true self.. fellow ogre perfectly depicting how the working class falls for the false reality of bourgeoisie put up to suppress them. In the wedding everyone seemed happy even tho she was part of their oppressors
Life went on and people accepted the inequality of life further solidifying the bourgeois power over them in tail too commonly told..
