UBI isn't exclusively a "left wing" idea and I'm not sure why people seem to think it is? Many on the left support it sure, but so did Friedman and Hayek, and so does ex venture capitalist Andrew Yang.

It would remove the need for the authoritarian elements of the current welfare system, it would give every individual in societal more autonomy, and depending on how it's implemented it could even be cheaper for taxpayers than the current system (as there'd be less admin costs)
We all support the state pension don't we? Giving everyone a basic safety net is something that there is broad consensus for across political ideologies and parties, isn't it?

UBI is fundamentally a liberal idea imo, and there's a strong neoliberal/libertarian case for it too
