Dear Everyone, please stop leaving STAFF out of the conversation pertaining to universities! It kills me every time I hear "to keep faculty and students safe". We

It is STAFF who have put themselves on the line to keep up the promise the University made to keep the campus clean and sanitized. WITHOUT hazard pay, without much in the way of added support, without much autonomy to make decisions based on their own needs.
It is STAFF who are among the highest number of personnel who don't have the privilege to work from home. Which means many staff have been on campus this entire time while many faculty and students have had the autonomy to decide if they were going to return or not.
It is STAFF that is reaching out to students daily to answer their questions, try and meet their needs, and provide emotional support. This is while they are dealing with their own unanswered questions, unmet needs, and emotional trauma.
STOP LEAVING STAFF OUT OF THE CONVERSATION. Change your language. Change your mindset.
