When you multi-task what you are actually doing is switch-tasking our background tasking

We don’t actually do two things at once very well

Think about that old computer of yours that gets bogged down just trying to load multiple applications

Our brains are a bit like that

Multi-tasking actually takes more time than if we were to focus on one task at a time

Time yourself for the following exercise

Write down the following sentence and number sequence

Switch tasking is a thief

Record your time

Now repeat the exercise and time yourself again, but this time write one letter in the sentence

then one number in the sequence and repeat until you have written the sentence and sequence again

Compare your times

On some cases the multitasking portion of the exercise will take 2x longer than the focus exercise

You’re better to focus and get your work done than continually switch

Multi or Swich tasking

- reduces the quality of your work
- increases the time it takes to do it
- increases stress levels
