An observation: It seems to me that a BIG chunk of the US is increasingly susceptible to cult mentality. Are we, on the left, exempt from this? Honestly, no, I don't think we are. However, is the anti-Trump movement on the right side of history? My honest answer is YES!
There's a difference. As I've bored all of you with, my mother may be a worst case scenario. An otherwise healthy woman who is approaching 70, with no dementia, has gone off the deep end with fantasies of "elite" Democrats eating babies. I feel so bad for Chrissy
Teigen, among SO many other folks, I don't even know what to say. But I digress. We had the Tea Party, a creation of the Koch Brothers, which my siblings & I believe set my mom down this path. Her husband introduced & reinforced these ideas too. At GREAT risk of sounding sexist,
not all women have agency. My mom is one of those women who lacks agency. She's in an psychologically abusive relationship. Here's my point: that peer pressure we used to be warned about? That doesn't just apply to drugs. If my mom didn't have a community to reinforce her beliefs
I wouldn't be writing this. A community supporting, amplifying, & propagating nonsense is as old as time, but our dilemma is convincing these people it's all BS. This QAnon shit is dangerous. It's Jonestown X 10. It's WAY WORSE than the Tea Party crap. Here's the thing, though,
some people are predisposed to believing delusional bullshit. If Joe Biden wins? THANK FUCKING GOD! But it's not going to put an end to the susceptibility of US Citizens to cults. We need to fight that with education. But, some are at war with education. All I've got for now.
