. @realDonaldTrump seems committed to undermining vote-by-mail. What I can’t understand is why Democrats are helping him do it, talking up a supposed Trump/GOP conspiracy to delay the mail for political purposes.
. @USPS's First Class Mail performance has decline at least 5 years running, aka before President Trump and long before GOP “megadonor” (as opposed to “logistics expert”) Louis DeJoy became Postmaster General.
On DeJoy’s first day on the job, in fact, @propublica Propublica already had ready-to-go a reported piece on the Postal Service’s declining performance and the growing worry about whether it could handle a national mail-in election.
And the month before DeJoy took over, his predecessor warned that the Postal Service could not guarantee any particular ballot delivery date, and advised voters to allow at least 7 days each way for requesting and then returning their ballots.
When @USPS reiterated that message last week in a letter to dozens of states, it was breathlessly amplified as proof of some sort of plot. But the point of those letters is to help the vote, not hurt it. The message: yes, the mail takes time, please plan accordingly.
That’s what voters need to know. If you’re worried, there’s the solution: apply for your ballot TODAY and send it back as soon as you get it.
