One story says it was he who introduced pierogi to Poland from Kiev where he fell in love with their taste while visiting. This story credits him with coining the name 'Ruskie Pierogi' named after Kievan Rus, which is widely associated with modern-day Ukraine.

In the first, he is said to have prayed for a miracle after the town of Kościelec's crops were destroyed by a sudden storm. When the crops grew back he was thanked by the townsfolk with a plate of pierogi filled with the miraculous harvest.
