SEEKING INTERCESSION WITH NABĪ ﷺ

1. Imām Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah al-Kūfī [159-235 AH / 775-850 CE] records in his Muşannaf:

“Narrated to us Abū Muáāwiyah, from Aá’mash, from Abū Şāliĥ, from Mālik al-Dār, he was the treasurer of Úmar, that he stated: https://twitter.com/Hamza_0786/status/1295155287058522113
A drought befell the people during the era of Úmar, and so a man came to the grave of Nabī ﷺ and he said, ‘Yā RasūlAllāh! Pray for rain for your Ummah for indeed they have perished!’

Thus, he (ﷺ) came to the man in a dream and said to him, ‘Go to Úmar and give him my Salām,
and inform him that you shall receive rain, and say to him, “Upon you is to be insightful, upon you is to be insightful.”’

Thus, he went to Úmar and informed him, and so Úmar wept and then declared, ‘O Rabb! I spare no effort except in what escapes my power.’”
2. Imām Abū Bakr Aĥmad ibn Ĥusayn al-Bayhaqī al-Shāfiýī [384-458 AH / 994-1066 CE] records the same narration in his book Dalā’il al-Nubuwwah.
3. Ĥāfiż Imād al-Dīn Abu’l Fīđā’ ibn Úmar ibn Kathīr al- Shāfiýī [701-774 AH / 1301-1372 CE] records the same narration, quoting al-Bayhaqī. After quoting this narration he states:

“And this is a Şaĥīĥ chain of narration.”
4. Imām Ibn Ĥajar al-Ásqalānī al-Shāfiýī [773-852 AH / 1371-1448 CE] quotes this narration in Fat’ĥ al-Bārī from Ibn Abī Shaybah saying:

“And Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated with a Şaĥīĥ chain of narration.”
He also stated:

“And indeed Sayf narrated in Futūĥ that the one who saw the aforementioned dream is Bilāl ibn al-Ĥārith al-Muzanī; one of the companions.”
5. Imām Shihāb al-Dīn Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad al-Qasţallāni al-Shāfiýī [851-923 AH / 1447-1517 CE] quotes this narration in Mawāhib al-Ladunniyyah from Ibn Abī Shaybah saying:

“And Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated with a Şaĥīĥ chain of narration.”
6. Imām Muĥammad ibn Ábd al-Bāqī al-Zarqānī al-Mālikī [1055-1122 AH / 1645-1710 CE] writes under the above quote in his Sharĥ of Mawāhib al-Ladunniyyah, regarding the man:

“He is Bilāl ibn al-Ĥārith al-Muzanī, the companion, as mentioned by Sayf in Kitāb al-Futūĥ.”
7. Shāh Waliyullāh Muĥaddith al-Dihlawī al-Ĥanafī [1114-1176 AH / 1703 -1762] records this narration in Qurrat’ul Áynayn and also mentions:

“Abū Úmar [Ibn Ábd al-Barr] narrated it in Istīáāb.”
We observe that this narration has been recorded by multiple classical scholars in every age and has been graded Şaĥīĥ by many of them.

From this we learn that it is not Shirk nor forbidden to seek intercession from Nabī ﷺ, for this was done by a companion.
Moreover, if this act were Shirk or forbidden then he would have been stopped and corrected by one of the companions, however we see that no such thing occurred.

Sayyidunā Úmar رضي الله عنه did not censure him, nor did he command him to take his Shahādah.
The fact that all the companions remained quiet and not one prohibited him or censured him is evidence that they considered it permissible by Ijmāá.

Furthermore, none of the scholars who narrated this considered it to be Shirk, nor did they say his act was incorrect.
In addition, this proves that RasūlAllāh ﷺ is able to hear in his grave and responds to those who seek intercession from him.

To say that it is Shirk or impermissible to seek intercession from RasūlAllāh ﷺ after his departure from this worldly life is refuted by this.
