Arsenal FPL options
Saliba, Martinez, Tierney and Pépé

So I’ve had a lot of questions about FPL options, especially Saliba. In this thread I’ll explain my thoughts on the Arsenal players.

William Saliba (ARS) DEF
Price: £4.5m
Appearances: 12

He looks like a cheap way to get into Arsenal’s defence, which towards the end of last season looked a lot stronger and able to keep clean sheets. With Marí, Mustafi and Chambers injured Saliba will have plenty of opportunity to show what he can do.

With Arsenal looking to sign centre back Gabriel from Lille, Saliba will be fighting for a spot at the start of the season. When all centre backs are back from injury it will be difficult for him to be in the the starting XI.

It is difficult to predict the team, but I don’t think he’ll start GW1 and I don’t think he’ll be in the squad every week. I hope he plays in the community shield and he shows us what he can do.

Martínez came into the side end of season due to Leno’s injury. Leno returned to full training pre FA cup final but did not make an appearance in the game. It is now unclear whether Leno will be available for the start of the season, Arsenal are seeking opinions on his injury.

If Martínez starts in the Community shield then he is a cheap way to get Arsenals defence into your FPL team. It’s whether or not you are happy to make the transfer to take Martínez out of your team when Leno returns. GK transfers are always hated by FPL managers!

Kieran Tierney (ARS) DEF

Injuries hindered Tierney a lot last season, only making 15 appearances in the prem. However, once he was fit again and Arteta was in charge Tierney started to shine.

Arteta has been changing formations but towards the end of the season stuck with attacking full backs, allowing Tierney to get further up the field. In Arsenal’s last prem game (3-2), Tierney picked up a goal and an assist. He racked up 37 points in the 9 games after lockdown.

Not only has Tierney shown he is a good attacking full back but he performed well against the likes of Salah, Mahrez and Traore which shows promise for possible defending BP next season.

Nicolas Pépé (ARS) FWD

Pépé for Arsenal in the 19/20 Premier League:

- Most passes into opp. box (140)
- Most take-ons completed (72)

Towards the end of the season Pépé was hitting form, getting both of the assists in the FA cup final and scoring a disallowed goal. Often taking, and scoring free kicks for Arsenal throughout the season he is a threat on his left foot from the right wing.
