As a lot of you already know, listening to books has truly been a massive game changer for me, but sometimes I have to make an exception and read a book. And #DeGoedeImmigrant has definitely been worth it!!! When I read @nduwanje’s piece, I felt so many different things.
Nvugira managed to put how I’ve been feeling lately into words so perfectly, her words gave me permission to not be afraid or ashamed of the hate-rage I’ve been feeling. Especially in the last few months I sometimes had my doubts whether I’ve been asking too much from my white
friends and acquaintances, but then I was like, no, what I am asking is the bare minimum. What a lot of white people don’t realise is that it takes a lot for those who experience racism on the daily to reach out and ask for you to use your privileged position to speak out.
Understand that we also have shit going on in our lives in addition to experiencing everyday racism, but we are still here doing this shit, a lot of which is distraction from the work we want to and need to be doing for our communities. So yall (white ppl) need to do the work in
preventing us from being distracted by white supremacy and no, it is not a one off thing (I see a lot of non-Black folk who were shouting BLM are back to their regular scheduling ). To paraphrase Nvugira: Instead of white people putting twice as much work into
dismantling white supremacy, we are the ones carrying twice the load of the struggle and that needs to fucking change!
And I’d also like to add this quote from @IjeomaOluo “[White people] If you keep trusting and knowing that People of Colour are worth this work, you will not not burn out. I know you are capable of it.”
If you speak Dutch I’d highly recommend buying #DeGoedeImmigrant and for Black & NBPoC who can’t afford it, please hit me up and I’ll happily lend it to you.
For those who don't understand dutch i translated a few highlights of @OlaveTalks’s piece, because it is truly important for her words to reach far and wide. And if you don’t follow her already, YOU NEED TO!!!

Nduwanje, I hope I did your words justice in the translation <3
