In 2002 Manolo Lafuente refused to accept when Oviedo's mayor told him it be best for Real Oviedo to dissolve, instead he took over as president for the club. Knowing the mountain of debts they were in and that the situation was basically imposible.
When I asked him why he took the job knowing just how bad the situation was he used the phrase "el corazón tiene razones que la razón no entiende"
and said "In that moment my heart said yes while my brain said no, but my heart convinced me to try and see what happened"
and said "In that moment my heart said yes while my brain said no, but my heart convinced me to try and see what happened"
Had it not been for Manolo Lafuente listening to his heart instead of his brain Real Oviedo probably wouldn't exist today. And there is soo many people who did vital actions that had they not done them Real Oviedo would not still exist.
I can't even start to try to explain how inspiring it is to work on this book and to talk to these people. The dedication, heart, pride... that a football club can have this importance to people, become a part of their identity.
For me it's not the fancy stadiums and big stars that make me love this sport, it's the people. The people who would do just about anything for their football club. They are the true stars.
