Why would Koeman even take the job?
He's 57 years old. Right now he is standing on the platform. If he doesn't jump on the train now, it will pass and that platform will be pretty crowded at the next stop.

Xavi will be the coach after this summer's appointment and there is a strong generation of young managers in development with links to our club. Heck, even the return of Pep is not ruled out and if that happens, that list of ex-players waiting to manage Barça will have only grown
At this point in his career Koeman can point at the Dutch national team and show he has a group of young playing exciting football. He has not exactly been a successful club coach, so again, timing is key here.
His connection to FDJ is also an advantage.

I assume he will have learned from his season at Valencia and not let himself be scapegoated in the dressing room for not playing senior players. He will demand that the board clean house in advance.
Barça is such a mess that if he does not succeed, he can say that he tried. The blame will mainly and rightfully lie with the board and the whole world knows this by now. Also if the new board ends his contract, he will not get blamed.
On the other hand, if he succeeds it will be at the club he loves in the city he loves and where he is revered. It is possibly the best risk-reward scenario any Barça coach could ever have.
Koeman should take the board, play it smart, take Pimienta as an assistant in a clear nod to Victor Font who would have Pimienta as the caretaker for Xavi, and work with Font or Laporta to move the club in the direction they want when they win the elections.
