1. Trump's refusal to disavow QAnon on Friday, along with his constant nod-and-wink to QAnon, & the embrace he & other party leaders have given to Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the large number of QAnon candidates are all signs that QAnon is the GOP future.
2. We haven't quite gotten a grip on what QAnon is. Analogies to Tea Party don't really get a grip on how outlandish Q narratives (about cannibalistic pedophile rings controlling bureaucracy & Dem party) are, nor the mythological purposes they serve.
3. Structurally, QAnon rose as myths often do, as a way of reconciling cognitively distressing facts. QAnon allowed people who liked Trump's message & were disturbed by evidence of his sexual predations & corruption to conjure up a new Trump, a fighter of deep state pedophiles
4. The two big inflection points of QAnon's growth were both Trump failures that needed to be excused: Mueller investigation in 2017 and Covid response in 2020: in both cases an alternative mythos was created to justify what was happening.
5. Because of its mythological function to excuse Trumpian failure, I think a Trump defeat will only enhance the appeal of QAnon if he loses: it'll create a Lost Cause myth of how evil pedophiles robbed election & why they have to be fought.
