I'm in the minority among Lefties, but I think having the very popular two-time moderate Republican governor of Ohio speak at the DNC is smart.

Democratic voters are clearly highly motivated to vote for Biden / against Trump. But we need midwestern moderate Republican votes.
I'm not at all saying Kasich is good. But he was, and remains, very popular with a lot of voters, particularly those who were likely to vote for Obama in 2008/2012 and then Trump in 2016. Those are votes the Democrats need.
I also think that Lefty Democrats should have more time on stage, but (a) Maybe tonight has kind of a "Republicans should vote for Biden" theme, and (b) I'm not sure giving the Lefty Dems time on stage is strategically smart.
I expect the vast majority of Lefty Dem voters will hold our noses and vote for Biden. I also think we are overrepresented in blue states (not to say we don't exist everywhere) and going after Obama/Trump voters is more likely to get a win.
And I think Lefties are still hung up on 2016 polls that said Bernie was very popular in the Midwest, but (a) so is Biden! Especially in 2020 polls and primaries! and (b) Reminding people that Bernie is not on the ticket seems likely to drive resentment more than excitement.
Anyway... Yeah I think it's icky, and Kasich sucks, but it seems tactically smart. That's what politics is.

I know a lot of us want it to be about ideals and vision, but more often it's about making a deal with someone kind of loathsome.
