Someone asked me what I would say to a suicidal person and I said I didn’t know how to answer that because suicidal people need more than a hotline, we need structural support. And then it got awkward lol
So much of suicide prevention conversations is about giving people “hope” but not tangible resources like housing and a living wage that can actually give people the will to live.
It just doesn’t feel right to me to say, “ask for help” to a suicidal young person who is homeless because their family kicked them out for being queer.
We as a society should provide resources and community. Sole responsibility should not be on the person in crisis.

We wouldn't have to try so hard to give people "hope" if we simply gave suicidal people the resources they need to thrive.
