For me, a collective should exist to leverage resources for a more equitable photography industry, not to hoard opportunity.
Take for example, @womenphotograph or @theauthorityc. These collectives exist because their members have been denied opportunities.

Ok, ok, of course Magnum was founded so that the member photographers could get a fair deal, and actually earn a living, because at the top of the hierarchy is capital. Capital that flows through media and art galleries.

It's complicated, because the industry isn't easy for any photographer or artist, and in this system, you have to play by certain rules if you truly want to pursue your vocation.
