I’ve been curious about this for a while: Who in the Eurasia/REECA field has *no* family connection to the region? I’ll be the first to raise my hand 🙋🏻‍♀️
Obviously, personal heritage confers a unique and powerful perspective on the region. But I’ve really noticed how the emphasis on family heritage can perpetuate the exclusion of poc. I touched on this briefly in my @Pushkin_House interview
To clarify, as @OlyaOliker said - Eurasia is clearly an immensely ethnically diverse region. My point here is more about poc from/in North America and Europe
Let’s be clear here: I’m *not* saying that people w/ familial ties dominate the field. There’s no data on this topic which is why I’m posing the question
