THREAD: The tomahawk chop, currently performed by @premrugby team @ExeterChiefs is based on scalping. Scalping was was used by Europeans as a way of tallying up for murdered Native American men women, children & babies.
The tomahawk was a multi purpose tool used for farming, felling wood etc by plains "Indians" & only really became weaponised after the arrival of Europeans. There were varied prices for the scalps of men, women, children under 12, babies and late term foetus.
So to say you're honouring Native Americans and allowing the tomahawk chop is like saying you're doing the Nazi salute to honour Jewish people. @premrugby has said no to racism so I question why @ExeterChiefs is allowed to continue this practice.
A white person at some point went "Oh, scalping is so savage...let's make it so it was the Indians that came up with it and pretend it's them." And that is the white washing of history being celebrated by @ExeterChiefs.
