The Rise of Skywalker is a controversial movie for a few reasons. But, if we take it for what it is, there are a lot of enjoyable moments in this film. Here’s a thread on some of the things I enjoy about it.
Let’s start at the beginning. We see Kylo tearing through some people on his way to find the Sith wayfinder. Of course, he gets it and makes his way to Palpatine. This opening is a great way to show how the events of TLJ have affected him. He is angry and determined.
Speaking of Palpatine, he is another bright spot of this movie. Say what you will about bringing him back, but Ian McDiarmid had a great performance in TROS. Palpatine is the true villain of the Skywalker Saga.
Anyways, back to Kylo. He wanted to be Vader. On the DS 2, we see Kylo turn back to the light thanks to Leia and a “memory” of Han. He becomes Vader in a sense. He sacrificed for someone he loved. Even though he thought it was too late. Kylo/Ben’s story is one of the best arcs.
Another great story is Rey’s, of course. She struggles to resist the pull of the dark side throughout the movie. She learns she is a Palpatine. She has a lot of inner conflict going on. But she completes her “hero’s journey”. She confronts her fear, as is the destiny of the Jedi.
After it all is done, she becomes a true Jedi and crafts her own lightsaber. She rejects the Palpatine name, ending the bloodline, and becomes a Skywalker. She adopts the name of her mentors, likely the closest thing to parents she has ever had since her real parents were taken.
Thank you all so much for reading, I really appreciate it. Remember, I respect your opinion so please respect mine. I’m not trying to claim this is the best Star Wars movie or anything, just that #AllStarWarsIsGood
